Eat Like This vs MacroFactor By Eat Like This Published 28 August 2026 Updated 28 August 2026

MacroFactor gives you precise targets. We turn them into dinner.

One is an exceptionally thoughtful macro tracker. The other plans the meals, portions, and groceries that get you there.

What MacroFactor says about itself

“MacroFactor uses a dynamic algorithm to adapt to changes in your metabolism and personalize your macro plan to keep you on track.”

Start here

Which one is right for you?

We would rather you end up with the right app than just end up with ours. Here is the honest version, up front.

Pick MacroFactor if…

Pick MacroFactor if you like precision over convenience. Its adaptive expenditure algorithm is among the most thoughtful tools available for a committed tracker, especially during a structured cut, maintenance phase, or bulk.

  • You enjoy tracking calories and macros most days
  • You want targets based on your real intake and weight trend
  • You weigh yourself regularly and like interpreting the data
  • You want a clean, ad-free tool that stays neutral when you go over

Pick Eat Like This if…

Pick Eat Like This if you want to know what to eat, not just what numbers to hit. We build the week around your needs, then adapt the meals when your body or schedule changes.

  • You want your meals planned before the week starts
  • You train but do not want nutrition to become a daily calculation
  • You have tried logging and found the upkeep unsustainable
  • You want portions and groceries to work for the people you cook with

The honest difference

One adapts your targets. The other adapts your table.

03

Adapt

Your goals and check-ins produce the meals for the week ahead.

MacroFactor fixes a real problem with ordinary calorie targets: a formula cannot know exactly what your body burns. Its expenditure algorithm combines your logged intake with your weight trend, then uses weekly check-ins to update your calorie and macro programme. It is also adherence neutral. Going over a target does not trigger red numbers, shame, or a compensatory penalty.

That precision depends on input. MacroFactor recommends logging nutrition at least four days out of seven and weighing in at least once a week for continuous updates. It can handle estimates and intentional breaks sensibly, but the central job is still tracking and interpreting data.

MacroFactor now includes AI photo logging, natural-language logging, custom recipes, and recipe sharing. What it does not build is a weekly menu with personalised recipes, coordinated meal swaps, and an automatic grocery list. Eat Like This starts where the target ends: what you will actually cook and eat next.

“MacroFactor is the better instrument for someone who wants to manage the numbers. Eat Like This is for someone who wants the numbers translated into a plan.”

Real life

What actually happens to you

Same situations. Two different days. Features tell you what an app has; this tells you how it behaves when the week does not go to plan.

You eat out and go over

MacroFactor

Photograph, describe, or estimate the meal. The app logs what happened without red numbers or shame.

Eat Like This

Snap a photo and carry on. Your plan keeps going and adjusts around what happened.

The scale will not move

MacroFactor

The expenditure algorithm detects the trend and can adjust your calorie and macro targets at check-in.

Eat Like This

Your weekly check-in flags the stall and the next meal plan adjusts around it.

Chaotic week

MacroFactor

Estimate difficult meals or take a logging break. The algorithm can pause safely, but there is no week of meals to reorganise.

Eat Like This

Your meals are already planned. Swap what does not fit and the grocery list updates with you.

Not sure it is working

MacroFactor

Expenditure and weight-trend views show what is changing. The data is excellent if you enjoy interpreting it.

Eat Like This

Check-ins bring weight, mood, sleep, activity, measurements, cravings, and hormonal factors together.

You want a different meal

MacroFactor

Choose anything, then log it. You can create recipes, but the app does not rebalance a planned week for you.

Eat Like This

Tap swap or personalise the recipe. The replacement still fits the plan.

Cooking for others

MacroFactor

Build a multi-serving recipe and share it by link. Household meal planning and combined grocery lists are not included.

Eat Like This

Cook together, scale each portion , and combine the grocery list automatically.

You miss a few days

MacroFactor

Updates may pause when nutrition data becomes sparse, then resume when you return. There is no streak punishment.

Eat Like This

There is no streak to break. Your next check-in picks up where you left off.

Who we actually are

Eat Like This does not come out ahead on every point.

A comparison page that only flatters itself is not worth much. Here is where MacroFactor is ahead, and where our product deliberately works differently.

Their expenditure algorithm is more precise

MacroFactor reverse-calculates energy expenditure from logged intake and weight trend, then updates calorie and macro targets. We do not have that model. Our check-in adapts the plan using a broader, less mathematically granular picture of your week.

Their tracker is exceptionally well considered

MacroFactor is not a punitive calorie counter. Its fast logger, verified data, neutral feedback, and sensible handling of estimates make it a strong choice for someone who genuinely wants to track.

They do have recipes and photo logging

MacroFactor can analyse a meal photo, build and import custom recipes, set servings, and share recipes by link. The distinction is not whether recipes exist; it is whether the app plans a coordinated week of them for you.

Their health integrations are ahead of ours

MacroFactor connects through Apple Health and Google Health Connect, which can bridge to many scales and apps. Our integrations are still limited, and we want to be direct about that.

06

Deliberate choices

Features we do not have

These are product choices or current limitations, not hidden footnotes.

01
Current limitation

An adaptive expenditure algorithm

This is MacroFactor’s defining strength and a real current limitation for us. We adapt through a holistic weekly check-in; we do not reverse-calculate your metabolic expenditure from daily food logs and weight data.

Evidence [2][3][4]

02
Product choice

A precision macro-logging interface

MacroFactor is built for fast, detailed logging against calorie, macro, and micronutrient targets. We put those calculations behind the meal plan, so we are not the right tool for someone who wants to audit every gram.

Evidence [1][5]

03
Product choice

Visible calorie and macro targets

Tracking works well for many people, especially when it is health-motivated. It can also be associated with food anxiety and disordered-eating symptoms for some weight- or shape-motivated users. We translate the maths into meals instead of making the number the daily task.

Evidence [10]

04
Product choice

A general-purpose food and recipe library

MacroFactor lets you search foods, create recipes, and import almost anything. We choose a narrower curated recipe system because our job is to recommend a complete week, not catalogue every possible thing someone might log.

Evidence [5][6]

By the numbers

Scale and evidence, with the denominator included.

These figures describe the products and studies behind this comparison. They are not claims that every user will have the same experience.

4 of 7

Nutrition-logging days needed for continuous updates

MacroFactor says daily logging is ideal, but its current expenditure algorithm can keep updating with at least four logged days per week.

Source [3]

1× weekly

Minimum recommended weigh-in frequency

Daily weigh-ins are preferable, but MacroFactor says one per week is generally sufficient for timely programme updates.

Annual MacroFactor subscription

The US App Store lists a seven-day trial and no permanent free tier before the annual subscription begins.

What people say about MacroFactor

Well loved, with real sticking points.

A summary of the themes that recur in long-time user reviews and independent coverage.

What people love

  • The expenditure algorithm responds to real intake and weight data, not a one-time formula
  • Going over a target does not produce red numbers, shame, or a compensatory penalty
  • The logger is fast, detailed, and backed by a carefully maintained food database
  • The product explains its methodology unusually well and treats serious trackers like adults

What tends to frustrate

  • The best coaching output still requires frequent food logging and regular weigh-ins
  • There is no weekly meal plan, coordinated meal swapping, or automatic grocery list
  • After the seven-day trial, there is no permanent free tier
  • The depth of data can feel like work when you only want to know what to eat

MacroFactor is loved for good reason: it is a specialist tool with a clear point of view, not a generic tracker with more badges. The same specialisation explains who may bounce off it. These are people who want the decisions made, not better data for making them.

08

The verdict

Choose the job you need done.

Both products can be the right answer. The deciding factor is whether you want to manage your nutrition or have a plan manage the week for you.

Choose MacroFactor if…

Choose MacroFactor if you are a committed tracker running a structured cut, maintenance phase, or bulk. If you want an excellent expenditure estimate, data-driven target updates, and an adherence-neutral logging experience, it is the stronger tool for that job.

Choose Eat Like This if…

Choose Eat Like This if the hard part is not calculating the target but living it. We are built for people who want meals, portions, swaps, and groceries planned together. They also want the week to keep adapting without turning every plate into a data-entry task.

MacroFactor gives you precise targets. We turn them into dinner.
