Which one is right for you?

We would rather you end up with the right app than just end up with ours. Here is the honest version, up front.

Pick MyFitnessPal if…

Pick MyFitnessPal if you like being in the driver’s seat. It is a brilliant food diary when you already know what you want to eat and want to log it, check your numbers, and keep yourself honest. It does that better than almost anything.

  • You like tracking and don’t mind logging daily
  • You already know your targets, or you have a coach
  • You eat packaged or restaurant food and want a huge database
  • You want your wearables feeding into one place

Pick Eat Like This if…

Pick Eat Like This if you would rather be told what to eat. We build the week around your goals, then adjust it as your check-ins come in.

  • You’re tired of deciding what to cook every day
  • You train and want food that fits how you eat
  • You’ve tried logging before and quietly gave up
  • You want a plan that shifts as your body does

Adapt

A prepared week that changes what happens next.

MyFitnessPal’s foundation is an excellent food diary. You eat, you log it, and you see where your day landed. Premium+ now adds household meal planning, and eligible Premium members can also use its AI Nutrition Coach. For a lot of people, that is more than enough.

The core tracking experience still starts with recording what happened and interpreting the numbers. Its paid planning and coaching tools can help decide what comes next; Eat Like This makes that forward plan the centre of the product from the start.

If you love the control of logging, a diary will always feel better. If you would rather not think about it, a plan will. That is really the whole decision.

“We wanted the opposite of a blank diary. You open the app, and the week is already there.”

Who we actually are

Eat Like This does not come out ahead on every point.

A comparison page that only flatters itself is not worth much. Here is where MyFitnessPal is ahead, and where our product deliberately works differently.

We’re a plan, not a database

We will not have MyFitnessPal’s approximately 22 million public food entries, and we are not trying to. We would rather do a smaller set of recipes well and portion them to your numbers.

We adjust weekly, not by the minute

Your plan shifts from check-in to check-in. It is not live calorie math; it is closer to a coach reading your trend and adapting the next block.

The expertise is inside the app

There is no nutritionist on standby to message. Their knowledge is built into how your plan is made, with AI chat when you have a question.

Integrations are still growing

If your life runs through a wearable, MyFitnessPal connects to more of them today. We are building this out and want to be clear about where we stand.

06

Deliberate choices

Features we do not have

These are product choices or current limitations, not hidden footnotes.

01
Product choice

A 22 million-entry food database

MyFitnessPal’s database is a genuine strength. We choose a smaller curated library because member-submitted entries can vary, especially beyond energy and macronutrients.

Evidence [11][17]

02
Current limitation

40+ app and device integrations

Our integrations are limited today. We prioritised the core planning and adaptation system first; broader integrations are on the roadmap.

Evidence [12]

03
Product choice

No calorie counting

For some users, weight- and shape-motivated calorie tracking is associated with food anxiety, preoccupation, and other disordered-eating symptoms. We keep the maths behind the plan instead of making it the daily task.

Evidence [8][9]

04
Current limitation

A social community layer

MyFitnessPal has community forums and friend connections. Our focus is currently the individual plan rather than a social feed.

05
Product choice

No logging streaks

Streaks can motivate, but a large social-listening study found that losing them or missing goals appeared to contribute to avoidance and disengagement for some users. We make returning intentionally uneventful.

Evidence [3]

06
Product choice

No user-set calorie targets

Targets can be useful, but research with young people has also described guilt and fear of negative feedback when app goals are missed. We translate goals into meals and adjust the plan through check-ins.

Evidence [10]

By the numbers

Scale and evidence, with the denominator included.

These figures describe the products and studies behind this comparison. They are not claims that every user will have the same experience.

Adults in a calorie-tracking app study

The study separated health-motivated use from weight- and shape-motivated use rather than treating every user the same.

A major convenience advantage, and one of the clearest reasons to choose a tracker at MyFitnessPal’s scale.

07

What people say about MyFitnessPal

Well loved, with real sticking points.

A summary of the themes that recur in long-time user reviews and independent coverage.

What people love

  • The food database is enormous, so almost anything is easy to find
  • Barcode scanning makes logging quick once it becomes a habit
  • It syncs neatly with most wearables and fitness apps
  • For experienced trackers, it is fast and familiar

What tends to frustrate

  • More useful features have moved behind the paywall
  • User-added database entries are not always accurate
  • A missed day resets the streak, which can feel deflating
  • It records what happened but does not tell you what to change

People who stick with MyFitnessPal tend to know what they are doing and use it as a logging layer on top of their own nutrition knowledge. People who drift away often needed the app to do more than log.

08

The verdict

Choose the job you need done.

Both products can be the right answer. The deciding factor is whether you want to manage your nutrition or have a plan manage the week for you.

Choose MyFitnessPal if…

Choose MyFitnessPal if you know your targets, enjoy logging, and want the most comprehensive food database available. If you work with a coach, track macros manually, or live inside a wearable ecosystem, it is a well-built tool for the job.

Choose Eat Like This if…

Choose Eat Like This if you want a plan, not a diary. It is for people who are tired of deciding what to eat, have stalled without knowing why, or want their nutrition to keep moving when real life interrupts the week.

MyFitnessPal tracks what you eat. Eat Like This plans what comes next.
